Sgt. 1st Class Shawn T. Hannon,
44, a 1991 graduate of Bowling Green State University, was
killed April 4, 2012, by a suicide bomber in Maimanah, the
capital of Faryab province, Afghanistan, along with two other
members of the Guard's Columbus-based 37th Infantry Brigade
Combat Team. Sergeant Hannon was chief legal counsel for the
Ohio Department of Veterans Affairs. Survivors include his wife
and a 9-month-old son. |

Sgt. 1st Class Charles "Chuck"
L. Adkins, 36, a 1993 graduate of Margaretta High School in
Castalia, Ohio, was killed April 16, 2011, along with four other
NATO trainers, in Afghanistan by a suicide bomber. Sergeant
Adkins was stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky. He was a 16-year Army
veteran. Sergeant Adkins and his wife, Sarah, had five children. |

Cpl. Donald R. Mickler Jr., 29,
of Trotwood, Ohio, a suburb of Dayton, was shot to death on March
19, 2011, during an attack in Afghanistan's Kandahar province.
The U.S. military said Corporal Mickler was killed by a shooter
described as “an individual from a military security group.” Corporal Mickler,
who enlisted in Bucyrus, about 90 miles southeast of Toledo, was assigned to the
4th Squadron, 2nd Stryker Calvary Regiment out of Vilseck,
Germany. |

of Perrysburg, a member of the Army's Special Forces, died on
Feb. 17, 2011 at his base at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Africa,
from injuries in a noncombat incident. Sergeant Hart was
stationed in the Horn of Africa in support of the war in
Afghanistan. He was assigned to the Special Operations Command
at Fort Bragg, N.C. |

Perrysburg Township, was one of five officers killed near Kabul,
the capital and largest city of Afghanistan, on
May 18, 2010, when a suicide bomber attacked their convoy.
Colonel Belkofer was
to spend a few weeks in leadership training in Afghanistan
in preparation for deployment there as a commander in
October. |

Army Sgt. Michael K. Ingram, Jr., 23,
Newport, Mich., died April 17, 2010, of injuries suffered
from an improvised explosive device while he was on patrol with
his unit in Afghanistan. A 2005 graduate of Monroe High School,
he was a member of 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th
Brigade Combat Team based at Fort Carson, Colo. He was
posthumously promoted from the rank of corporal to sergeant. |

before retirement. He was an infantryman serving on a transition
team assigned to 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, in Fort

when the F-16 fighter jet he was flying crashed during takeoff
about five miles north of Balad Air Base as a result of an
"aircraft accident, not of being shot down," officials
said. Colonel Sonnenberg was a pilot with Delta
Air Lines and was a Henry County farmer. He was a 1983 graduate
of Napoleon High School and a 1987 graduate of Bowling Green
State University. |

1997. His widow, Amie, received his Purple Heart and Bronze
Star. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry

training in the Marine Corps four days after graduating from high school in 1999. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

was killed Oct. 19, 2005, in Balad, Iraq, when the Humvee he was riding in was struck by indirect
enemy fire. Raised in Pico Rivera, Calif., Sgt. Mora was married to Veronica (Garcia) Mora, of Perrysburg. In addition to his wife, Sgt. Mora is survived by two daughters, Olivia and Celina, and a son, Christopher. They all live in Perrysburg, and Sgt. Mora was buried at Fort Meigs Cemetery in Perrysburg. He later attended the University of Toledo, where he met his
wife. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry
Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas, and had been
in Iraq since March. |

Germany, of injuries received in Iraq March 14. Sergeant Fox, an
Operation Desert Storm veteran, was the turret gunner on an M-2
Bradley Fighting Vehicle that was damaged by a roadside bomb in
southeastern Iraq. He enlisted after his family moved to
Orlando, Fla. He was assigned to the Army, 1st Battalion, 36th
Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Friedburg, Germany. |

Reese, 31, formerly of Elida, Ohio, died Dec. 10, 2003, after he
fell from his patrol boat into the Tigris River. He graduated
from Elida High School in 1990 and joined the Army. He served
seven years as a military policeman and attained the rank
of specialist before joining the Ohio National Guard as an MP.
He was assigned to the 135th Military Police Company in Brook
Park, Ohio. |

own automatic weapon accidentally discharged, striking him in
the chest in Iraq. He died of cardiac arrest. He was a 2003
graduate of Van Wert High School. He was assigned to the 3rd
Light Armored Reconnaissance Regiment of the 1st Marine
Division. |
