Shawn T. Hannon, 44
Branch: Ohio National Guard
Sgt. 1st Class Shawn T. Hannon, 44, a 1991 graduate of Bowling Green State University, was killed April 4, 2012, by a suicide bomber in Maimanah, the capital of Faryab province, Afghanistan, along with two other members of the Guard's Columbus-based 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. Sergeant Hannon was chief legal counsel for the Ohio Department of Veterans Affairs. Survivors include his wife and a 9-month-old son.
 
 
Charles "Chuck" L. Adkins., 36
Branch: Army
Sgt. 1st Class Charles "Chuck" L. Adkins, 36, a 1993 graduate of Margaretta High School in Castalia, Ohio, was killed April 16, 2011, along with four other NATO trainers, in Afghanistan by a suicide bomber. Sergeant Adkins was stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky. He was a 16-year Army veteran. Sergeant Adkins and his wife, Sarah, had five children.
Donald R. Mickler Jr., 29

Cpl. Donald R. Mickler Jr., 29, of Trotwood, Ohio, a suburb of Dayton, was shot to death on March 19, 2011, during an attack in Afghanistan's Kandahar province. The U.S. military said Corporal Mickler was killed by a shooter described as “an individual from a military security group.” Corporal Mickler, who enlisted in Bucyrus, about 90 miles southeast of Toledo, was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 2nd Stryker Calvary Regiment out of Vilseck, Germany.
Bradley C. Hart
Bradley C. Hart, 25

Staff Sgt. Bradley C. Hart, 25, of Perrysburg, a member of the Army's Special Forces, died on Feb. 17, 2011 at his base at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Africa, from injuries in a noncombat incident. Sergeant Hart was stationed in the Horn of Africa in support of the war in Afghanistan. He was assigned to the Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Nathan B. Carse, 32

Army Spc. Nathan B. Carse, 32, of Harrod, Ohio, east of Lima, Ohio, was killed on Feb. 8, 2011, in Aghanistan's Kandahar province when insurgents attacked his unit with an explosive device.Specialist Carse was assigned to the 2nd Engineer Battalion, 176 Engineer Brigade, out of White Sands Missile Range, N.M.

Patrick Ryan Carroll, 25

Army Sgt. Patrick Ryan Carroll, Norwalk, Ohio, died Feb. 7, 2011, of injuries sustained during a suicide bomber attack in Afghanistan's Kandahar province. Sergeant Carroll was assigned to the 319th Military Intelligence Battalion, 525th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, N.C.
 
Thomas Belkofer, 44
Branch: Army
Army Lt. Col. Thomas Belkofer, 44, Perrysburg Township, was one of five officers killed near Kabul, the capital and largest city of Afghanistan, on  May 18, 2010, when a suicide bomber attacked their convoy. Colonel Belkofer was to spend a few weeks in leadership training in Afghanistan in preparation for deployment there as a commander in October.
Michael K. Ingram, Jr., 23
Branch: Army
Army Sgt. Michael K. Ingram, Jr., 23, Newport, Mich., died April 17, 2010, of injuries suffered from an improvised explosive device while he was on patrol with his unit in Afghanistan. A 2005 graduate of Monroe High School, he was a member of 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team based at Fort Carson, Colo. He was posthumously promoted from the rank of corporal to sergeant.
Eric W. Hario, 19

Army Pfc. Eric W. Hario, 19, Monroe, died on Sept. 29, 2009, of wounds suffered in an attack in Paktika Province, a mountainous area of Afghanistan. He was on his first deployment to Afghanistan and assigned to the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment.
 
Michael J. Medders Jr., 25

Army Capt. Michael J. Medders Jr. 25, of Avon Lake, Ohio, died Sept. 24, 2008 in Jisr Naft, Iraq, of wounds sustained when a suicide bomber detonated a vest during operations. He was a 2005 graduate of Bowling Green State University. Captain Medders was stationed with the U.S. Army's 2nd Squadron 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.
Jon Michael Schoolcraft III, 26

Army Spec. Jon Michael "Mike" Schoolcraft III, 26, Wapakoneta, died Jan. 19, 2008, in Taji, Iraq, from wounds that occurred when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device. A 2001 Wapakoneta High School graduate, he was serving his second tour of duty in Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
 
Jon Martin, 33

Army Staff Sgt. Jon Martin, 33, Bellevue, died Nov. 22, 2007, (Thanksgiving), of injuries received Nov. 9 when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in Iraq. He was a member of the 1st Squadron, 32nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.
Christian M. Neff, 19

Army Pfc. Christian M. Neff, 19, of Allen County’s Shawnee Township, died Sept. 19, 2007, in Baghdad of wounds from an improvised explosive device. He graduated from Apollo Career Center and Shawnee High School in 2006. He was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, headquartered at Fort Stewart, Ga.
Daniel E. Miller, 43

Army Sgt. 1st Class Daniel E. Miller, 43, originally of Thornville, Ohio, who claimed his wife’s hometown of Rossford as his own, died Aug. 24, 2007, near Herat, Afghanistan, when the Humvee in which he was riding overturned. He was deployed on what was to be his last tour of duty before retirement. He was an infantryman serving on a transition team assigned to 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, in Fort Riley, Kan.
Keith A. Kline, 24

Army Sgt. Keith A. Kline, 24, Oak Harbor, Ohio, died July 5, 2007, in Operation Iraqi Freedom when his vehicle struck a makeshift bomb in Baghdad. He was assigned to the Army 96th Civil Affairs Battalion, 95th Civil Affairs Brigade, Fort Bragg, N.C.
 Kevin Sonnenberg, 42

Ohio Air National Guard Lt. Col. Kevin Sonnenberg, 42, McClure, Ohio, was killed June 15, 2007, when the F-16 fighter jet he was flying crashed during takeoff about five miles north of Balad Air Base as a result of an "aircraft accident, not of being shot down," officials said. Colonel Sonnenberg was a pilot with Delta Air  Lines and was a Henry County farmer. He was a 1983 graduate of Napoleon High School and a 1987 graduate of Bowling Green State University.
William N. Davis, 26

Army Pfc. William N. Davis, 26, Adrian, was killed March 17, 2007, when a makeshift bomb exploded near his vehicle during combat operations in Baghdad. He was assigned to the Army 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas
 
Christopher P. Messer, 28

Army Sgt. Christopher P. Messer, 28, Raisinville Township, Mich., died Dec. 27, 2006 — his third wedding anniversary — when an improvised explosive device detonated near Baghdad. Sergeant Messer attended Ida Public Schools and graduated from Dundee Alternative High School in 1997. His widow, Amie, received his Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, Fort Drum, N.Y.
Jeremy S. Shock, 22

Marine Lance Cpl. Jeremy S. Shock, 22, a 2002 Clyde High School and 2006 University of Tiffin graduate, was killed Nov. 18, 2006, when the Humvee he was traveling in struck a roadside bomb in Fallujah. He was a member of the Perrysburg Township-based Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines.

Army 1st Sgt. Aaron D. Jagger, 43, Hillsdale, Mich., was killed Aug. 9, 2006, when a makeshift bomb exploded near his Humvee during combat operations in Ramadi, Iraq. He was assigned to the Army, 1st Battalion, 37th Armor Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Friedberg, Germany.
David R. Christoff, 25

Marine Sgt. David R. Christoff, 25, Rossford, died May 22, 2006, in Operation Iraqi Freedom from wounds received while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Anbar Province. Michael Paul Hodshire, 25

Marine Sgt. Michael Paul Hodshire, 25, North Adams, Mich., died Oct. 30, 2005, near Fallujah, Iraq, of wounds sustained the day before from an improvised explosive device during combat operations. Sergeant Hodshire entered basic training in the Marine Corps four days after graduating from high school in 1999. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

 
Arthur Mora Jr., 23

Army Sgt. Arthur Mora Jr., 23, was killed Oct. 19, 2005, in Balad, Iraq, when the Humvee he was riding in was struck by indirect enemy fire. Raised in Pico Rivera, Calif., Sgt. Mora was married to Veronica (Garcia) Mora, of Perrysburg. In addition to his wife, Sgt. Mora is survived by two daughters, Olivia and Celina, and a son, Christopher. They all live in Perrysburg, and Sgt. Mora was buried at Fort Meigs Cemetery in Perrysburg. He was assigned to the Army, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.
 
Jeremy M. Hodge, 20

Army Spc. Jeremy M. Hodge, 20, of Ridgeway, Ohio, was killed Oct. 10, 2005, in Baghdad when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee. Specialist Hodge was assigned to the 612th Engineer Battalion, Ohio Army National Guard, Tiffin, Ohio.

Nicholas Greer, 21

Army Pfc. Nicholas Greer, 21, Monroe, was killed Oct. 8, 2005, when his foot patrol was attacked by small-arms fire in Haqlaniyah, in western Iraq. He suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the neck. He had been in Iraq for just two weeks of his tour and was an accomplished marksman. He was assigned to the Army, 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.
Jason Benford, 32

Army Staff Sgt. Jason Benford, 32, formerly of Toledo, was killed Sept. 27, 2005, in Operation Iraqi Freedom when his patrol was attacked by enemy forces in Ar Ramadi. He was assigned to the Army, 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Ga.
Joshua Brazee, 25

Army Spec. Joshua Brazee, 25, Sand Creek, Mich., was killed May 23, 2005, in Al Qaim, Iraq. He had been in Iraq several months after joining the Army a year before. He had previously served four years in the Navy. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment based at Fort Carson, Colo.
Gary "Andy" Eckert, 24

Army Sgt. Gary "Andy" Eckert, 24, Whitehouse, died May 8, 2005, in Operation Iraqi Freedom in Balad of injuries sustained in Samarra when a makeshift bomb exploded near his Humvee. Unit: Army Reserves, 983rd Engineer Battalion, U.S. Army Reserve, Monclova, Ohio.
Zachary Wobler, 24

Army Staff Sgt. Zachary Wobler, 24, Lima, was killed Feb. 6, 2005, when he was shot to death by insurgents in Mosul, Iraq. He was a 1998 graduate of Ottawa-Glandorf High School. He was assigned to the Army, 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Joshua A. Ramsey, 19

Army Pfc. Joshua A. Ramsey, 19, Defiance, died Dec. 12, 2004, of noncombat-related injuries Dec. 12. His death was investigated by military officials. Family was told he suffered a gunshot wound in the head inside his quarters. He was assigned to the Army, 95th Military Police Battalion, Mannheim, Germany.
Dennis Miller, Jr., 21

Army Pfc. Dennis Miller, Jr., 21, LaSalle, Mich., was killed Nov. 10, 2004, when his convoy was ambushed outside Ramadi, Iraq. He was a 2001 Erie Mason High School graduate. He was assigned to the Army, 2nd Battalion, 72nd Armor Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Casey, South Korea.
Dennis Pintor, 30

Army Capt. Dennis Pintor, 30, Elida, Ohio, was killed Oct. 12, 2004, by a roadside improvised explosive device in Iraq. A 1992 graduate of Elida High School northwest of Lima, Captain Pintor graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1998. He was assigned to the Army, 20th Engineer Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
Jason L. Sparks, 19

Army Pfc. Jason L. Sparks, 19, Monroeville, Ohio, was killed Sept. 8, 2004, when his unit came under fire in the Iraqi city of Fallujah, a center of resistance to U.S. forces. He was a 2003 graduate of Monroeville High School. He was assigned to the Army, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, Camp Casey, South Korea.
Charles E. Odums II, 22

Army Spec. Charles E. Odums II, 22, Sandusky, was killed May 30, 2004, when a bomb struck the Humvee he was driving in Baghdad. Specialist Odums played football and ran track at Sandusky High and graduated in 1999. He later attended the University of Toledo, where he met his wife. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas, and had been in Iraq since March.
Bradley Fox, 34

Army Sgt. 1st Class Bradley Fox, 34, formerly of Adrian, died April 20, 2004, in Landstuhl, Germany, of injuries received in Iraq March 14. Sergeant Fox, an Operation Desert Storm veteran, was the turret gunner on an M-2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle that was damaged by a roadside bomb in southeastern Iraq. He enlisted after his family moved to Orlando, Fla. He was assigned to the Army, 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Friedburg, Germany.
 
Aaron Todd Reese, 31

Army Staff Sgt. Aaron Todd Reese, 31, formerly of Elida, Ohio, died Dec. 10, 2003, after he fell from his patrol boat into the Tigris River. He graduated from Elida High School in 1990 and joined the Army. He served seven years as a military policeman and attained the rank of specialist before joining the Ohio National Guard as an MP. He was assigned to the 135th Military Police Company in Brook Park, Ohio.
Juan G. Garza, 20

Marine Pfc. Juan G. Garza, 20, Temperance, Mich., was killed April 8, 2003, by a sniper in central Iraq. He was a 2002 graduate of Summerfield High School. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion of the 4th Marine Regiment, in Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Christian Daniel Gurtner, 19

Marine Pfc. Christian Daniel Gurtner, 19, Van Wert, Ohio, was killed April 2, 2003, when his own automatic weapon accidentally discharged, striking him in the chest in Iraq. He died of cardiac arrest. He was a 2003 graduate of Van Wert High School. He was assigned to the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Regiment of the 1st Marine Division.
